NE | Cornfed | Born, Raised & Residing
You’re probably reading the statement above thinking to yourself, is that really all they have in Nebraska? Corn?! Wait a minute, where even is Nebraska? It’s okay. It happens, and believe it or not I get asked this question more often than not.
My name is Makael Weatherby. I’m 24 years old, and I’m a Business Development and Marketing Associate for a private company called Infogroup. I’m also in the Nebraska Air National Guard serving as the 155th Air Refueling Wing Commander’s Support Staff. I’ve been working at Infogroup for a little over a year, and in the Nebraska Air National Guard for five years now, and I’m beginning to understand what everyone means when they say adulting is rough.
Let’s rewind to the Summer after I finished my undergrad at Wayne State. I moved closer to home, started my internship at the Chamber of Commerce, and my life has been in fast forward ever since. Have you ever seen the movie “Click”? Yeah, I’m wishing I had that remote right about now.
While I was working at the Chamber of Commerce I was assisting in coordinating community events, along with preparing for change of command, retirement and promotion ceremonies for the Air National Guard, as well as being a day-of-coordinator for bride and grooms on their big day, all while planning my own wedding. Yikes, that was a mouthful. To say the least, I had my hands full that Summer. You’re probably wondering what this has anything to do with my topic, but what I realized that Summer is that I had found my niche.
Fast forward, I decided that I wanted my weekends back, so I’m trying corporate events. Now I’m working at Infogroup planning an annual client conference and it’s still exciting, and exhilarating all at the same time, but it’s not my dream. I still coordinate weddings here and there for friends and family when I can, and when I say coordinate I mean a 12-15 hour day of setup, arranging, tear down. Everything from bringing the couples alcohol to get their dance on, to taking out the trash at the end of the night. Whatever they need, they know that I’m their girl.
Growing up, I’ve always loved weddings. My favorite part is feeling all the love in the air on that big day. There’s just something about it. I also enjoy the feeling of helping others. Weddings are something that us, women, dream about since we were little girls, and when that day finally gets here, I want to make sure that I can be that person for them because I appreciate how much it meant to me on my wedding day.
Some call me crazy, but I’ve had this dream for many years now to have my own venue, and that’s why I’m here. To show you and myself, how much passion I have for this idea. So, that’s it. That’s me in a nutshell. If you have any questions, or just simply want to chat. Head on over to the contact page. I’d love the opportunity to get to know you and tell you a little bit more about my story.
